Janel and Sheena met at a photography conference in Lacon, IL several years ago. They were both newborn photographers that worked individually, and immediately became the best of friends. They had worked on assignments together, such as when Janel had new babies or if either of them had sessions with multiples and they needed someone to assist. About 4 years ago, Janel was very pregnant with Autumn and there was a convention in Iowa where they had the opportunity to learn from the newborn photographers, Sweet Little You. While driving home, lots of discussions took place. There was a plan to photograph Autumn’s birth and document it (as well as noting where the hospitals were just in case she arrived earlier than anticipated). There were more plans of photographing Autumn together for her newborn session after she was born. The biggest plan was maybe we should just join forces and open a studio together. It seemed slightly crazy at the time, since Sheena lives an hour away from Janel, near Starved Rock State Park. In the meantime, Sheena woke up one morning to Janel’s husband telling her that it was too late to come and photograph the birth, as Autumn had already been born. She had actually arrived at home on accident, after Janel went into labor and there was no time to drive to the hospital. She was delivered by Janel’s husband on the dining room floor after only 20 minutes!!! Autumn had the biggest cheeks, and she was given the nickname Cheeks, Sweet Cheeks, and also Little Sweet Cheeks. We decided then that if we decided to get a studio, that was going to be our business name!! Today Autumn is celebrating her 4th birthday, and scroll below to see what she looked like then at her many newborn sessions with us and now!!
A few short months later, Janel saw a space available in Washington, right next to the Blend. We went to look at it, and knew it was the perfect location for us!! Little Sweet Cheeks Photography was born, and we officially opened our studio together in March of 2020. We will be sharing more about our location, and about us, in future blog posts!!!
